Cannery Row is a novel by John Steinbeck, published in 1945. Set during the Great Depression, Steinbeck attempts to capture the feeling of a place: Cannery Row, a street lined with sardine canneries in Monterey, California, and the rough-and-tumble crowd who inhabit it. The cover illustration reflects the disheveled state of the waterfront street. The color palette is derived from vintage sardine can labels.
